On September 7, 2022, Apple announced the iPhone 14, as well as new Plus, Pro, and Pro Max models. There are some significant changes this time around, with new satellite connectivity options on all models and a redesign of the tier on the iPhone 14 Pro.

iPhone 14 Specifications

Apple has maintained its strategy of providing the same feature sets all over models in the same device.  Apart from the screen sizes and battery life, the bigger iPhone 14 Plus has no new features.

It should be noted that there is no iPhone mini in the new iPhone generation. Due to a lack of demand for smaller iPhones, the 5.4-inch display size was dropped in favor of the larger 6.7-inch model.

Aside from minor color changes, the iPhone 14 resembles the iPhone 13 it replaces. The same notch, angled rear camera system, and metal chassis. The 6.1-inch XDR Super Retina display has a pixel density of 460ppi.

The larger iPhone 14 Plus is a new model, but it retains all of the features of the smaller model, including the identical camera bump. It has a 458ppi 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR display.

The displays, like the iPhone 13, support HDR and have a P3 wide color. In normal use, the OLED has a contrast ratio of 2 million to 1 and a brightness of 800 nits.

The one and only notable design difference between the devices is the absence of a SIM card pan in the US version. Apple has committed to going all-in on e-SIM support, so users will no longer have to deal with physical cards.

Satellite-based emergency alerts

Apple created custom antennas and equipment to allow the latest iPhones to interact with satellite minisatellite miles above the Planet’s surface without the use of a massive antenna module. This system is primarily intended for emergency use.The device will guide the user through alerts to ensure that communication is brief but detailed.

The user interface on the display will demonstrate the user in what direction to point the iPhone in order to receive the strongest signal from the satellite. Messages sent this way can take anywhere between 15 seconds and several minutes to relay.

Sure, the iPhone 14 Pro isn’t the game-changing upgrade you might have hoped for, and that’s because the iPhone did so much right. The Pro series has reached a point where there isn’t much room for advancement. This year’s models are the pinnacle of iteration: better cameras, brighter displays, a latest design element, and much more strong hardware.
